Weekly Menu Plan & Fitness Recap {7/31}

Hey guys! Can't you believe that August starts Monday?! This summer is FLYING by! I can't believe that school starts here in a couple of weeks. So crazy! Before you know it, pumpkin spiced everything will be popping up all over the place again.


Anyway, I hope you're having a great weekend! Ours has been so busy and absolutely exhausting!! We are shopping for a new truck for TC and I absolutely hate it!! I think I would just about do anything else except this. Seriously. I felt like I needed a shower after we got home! 

We are headed out of town camping next weekend, so my meal plan is in the air for a couple of days and I won't be able to get my run in on Saturday and probably not Sunday morning either. So, my August miles probably won't be looking that good. #runnerproblems

Fitness Recap:

I had a pretty good week in workouts. It took me a couple of days to get back into the groove with the 4 am club, but I was there by the end of the week. I'm currently dealing with the plantar fasciitis as well as some shoulder pain. I went to my chiropractor yesterday and we have a plan of attack. Fingers crossed that it works! Here's how my workouts looked for the week...

Weekly Menu Plan & Fitness Recap {7/24}

Hey guys! Did you miss me?! I took a week off from the blog while we were on vacation in PA because I honestly had no idea what the plan was going to be. I try to see as many people as possible when I go home and I'm never really sure what is going to come up at the last minute. I kept up with my runs, but didn't get any strength work in the entire time we were away. Jillian's workouts are going to be KILLER this coming week!! Although, being in PA, I did get lots of hill work in!!

My eating has not been anywhere near on track, but it's all about balance, right? But I'm ready to buckle down and get back on track after we get back to SC. I'm toying with the idea of trying to do a round of Whole30, but I'm not sure if I could do it. If anyone has any tips or tricks for Whole30, please share them with me!!

Five for Friday {7/15}

Hey guys!! We've made it through another week!! The weekend is just about here!! Since I'm spending a good bit of time in the car yesterday evening and this morning, I thought I would do a quick post...

1. We're headed home! I'm so excited! I only get to go home once a year now that we have two kiddos, one of which is in school. We make the annual trek home the 3rd Saturday in July so we can go to my dad's family reunion. I'm a true country girl. We have our reunion at a local sportman's club complete with a square dance, which my dad calls for. I have so many great memories from these reunions when I was young and I'm so happy that my own kids get to experience it, too.

2. I can't say enough good things about my new running shoes. They've made such a difference in my runs. I had been starting to experience some pain that I be been told is plantar's faciatitis. It's no fun and if I'm being honest, scares me a little that my running days are numbered. I'll keep going as long as I can, making sure to stretch and ice my foot and keep up with new running shoes more often.


3. It's Success School time for Advocare.  So many of my new friends have met up in Dallas and are learning from he best! Success School also means new products. So far, they've brought back Cherry Spark and have introduced some new greens products from their wellness line. I've seen Sneek peeks of a new probiotic they're releasing soon and am looking forward to seeing what else they have up their sleeve this weekend.

4. I love building my team and welcoming new members that are looking for a healthier lifestyle and earning some extra income along the way. I love the motivation that comes a long with new friends. While they're trying to get started on their journey, they inspire me to continue mine and stay consistent. I'm going to trysts keep my eating under control while I'm home with a few splurges and then buckle back down after I get back to SC.

5. I'm loving Snapchat. Come find me on there!! My name is SouthLiveYankee if you want to search for me. I'm totally obsessed with the filters and have my kids hooked, too. But I feel so old using it!! I welcome any tips and tricks!!

Ok, time to keep on keeping on. I've finished a book already and home to get a good start on another one.

Weekly Menu Plan & Fitness Recap {7/10}

Hey there! I hope you're all having a great weekend. We've been having the craziest weather here lately. I guess it's pretty typical for Summer in South Carolina though. We have crazy heat and humidity during the day and the storms start rolling in early evening. They're enough to kick us out of the pool, much to the kids disappointment.

We are headed out of town later this week for our annual trek up North. We might change a couple of things up a little this year and visit a couple of other places during our time away. We'll have to see what happens though. We will also be celebrating my niece's birthday this afternoon, so no dinner at home. It'll definitely be a short grocery list for shopping this week!!

Fitness Recap:
I was dealing with a good bit of foot pain during my runs last week. I found a good deal on a new pair of shoes and decided to buy a new pair of Asics.
These Cumulus are so comfortable!! I'm still trying to get the laces right, but I should have those where they should be soon. My run yesterday morning was great! It was so nice to run without any pain!

S'mores Treats

S'mores treats you guys. Seriously!! These are so easy and so good! I couldn't stop eating them!! I love all things s'mores. What's not to love about the crunchy graham cracker, gooey marshmallow and yummy chocolate all rolled into one delicious snack?! I saw a post somewhere that had a recipe with quite a few ingredients in it. Why make something so simple so complicated? So, I decided to try my own hand at coming up with a new recipe. I'm pretty happy with it. What's even better? With the exception of the butter, you don't have to measure anything!! 

Here's the recipe:

S'MORES TREATS
Servings: 12

1/4 c. Butter
1 bag miniature marshmallows
handful of miniature chocolate chips
1 small box Golden Grahams cereal

Over medium/high heat, melt butter. Turn heat to low and add in all but a handful of marshmallows. Stir until marshmallows are melted. Pour in entire box of cereal. Stir until cereal is coated with marshmallow mixture. Press into a 9 x 13-inch baking dish that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Sprinkle chocolate chips and marshmallows on top. Allow to cool. Cut into 12 squares and ENJOY!

Seriously you guys. So easy. I'm definitely planning to keep these ingredients on hand all Summer so I can whip up a batch anytime we go camping. Who wants to mess with a campfire anyway?!

Weekly Menu Plan & Fitness Recap {7/3}

Hey there! Happy Independence Day weekend. So glad we made it through the week and I'm enjoying a nice weekend at home. We are planning to have a little cookout at our house tomorrow, so I'm getting things lined up for that. It's nothing big, just some close family/friends. I'm so glad that I'm finally feeling better. My cough is trying to hang on, but I've just about kicked it. I've welcomed the sun on my runs the last two days. I usually love a sunrise, but they make for a pretty sweaty long run!

I'm excited about a new s'mores recipe that I'm going to try...maybe tomorrow. If it turns out, I'll be sharing it on the blog soon!

Fitness Recap:
This week was a weird week for my workouts. I caught this chest congestion thing and just wasn't feeling an early morning workout by Thursday. I did push to finish out my 50 miles for Jine at lunch though. So, that's better than nothing. I tried for a 10 mile run Friday, but had to settle for a 10k and drag myself back at that point. So glad I got those 10 miles in in Saturday though!

Fitness Friday {7/1}

Happy July everyone!! Any plans for the weekend yet? Still nothing definite on our end except a whole lot of maxin' & relaxin'! And I.can't.wait!! Might get some shopping done and some running (weather permitting.)


So, I thought I would just give a brief run down of where I am in my fitness journey. I'm currently working out about 6-7 days a week.. It's nothing crazy, usually just about 30-40 minutes each day. I usually get my strength work in during the week and my cardio/runs in on the weekend.

In the past, I've done a variety of different home workouts. I'm seriously the workout DVD queen. I don't even know how many of them I have. I like to keep changing things up so that I don't get bored, but I also need to be sure that the workouts are challenging enough for me. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to change things up (again) and start working through Jillian Michales' Body Revolution system. 

I'm not following the eating plan (I'm actually on day 10 of the Advocare 10 Day Cleanse and feeling amazing!!) But I really like the workout series. I've started it before, but never finished it. So, thought I would give it a try. Basically, there are three difference workouts per level - two of them are strength and one is cardio. You do the same level for two weeks, then bump up to the next level. I'm currently on workouts 5&6 and definitely still feeling it. I'm excited to see how I progress throughout the program. And I already have her Body Shred program ready to go as my next step.

I try to change home weekend runs with some longerruns thrown in here and there. I'm pretty excited about a goal that I set for June. I decided to try to get 50 miles in (according to the Runkeeper app.) at the end of last weekend, I was at 47.2 miles. Only 2.8 miles to my goal, but I don't usually run during the week.
Well, I decided to go for it and thanks to a (super hot and humid) lunchtime run yesterday and I got my 50 miles in. So happy I pushed myself to reach that goal!!

So, I'd love to know what your current fitness routine is. Do you prefer home workouts or do you go to the gym?

I hope you all have a safe and Happy 4th of July weekend. I'm definitely looking forward to some good food over the holiday. But will still try to keep it under control ;-)
