Healthy New Year's Eve Ideas

Every year on New Year's Eve, we go to a party at someone else's house. Sometimes, we may be at my parent's house, some times we may be with our neighbors, but we are always somewhere else for the late afternoon/evening. And I always take a couple of different dishes to share. I'm one of those people that doesn't like to show up at a party without some kind of food to share. We are also some of those super cool people that rarely make it to midnight and are passed out an hour or two before that. But that's a something that I'm sure many other parents out there can understand.

I thought it would be fun to go back through some of my past recipes and give some ideas for dishes to bring to a New Year's Eve celebration. Here's what I came up with:

Something Savory:

Alabama Firecrackers -
Some good to munch on througout the evening.

Baked Buffalo Wings -
Buffalo wings are always a winner. Lighten them up by baking istead of frying!

Cheddar Bacon Ranch Dip -
Crack dip!! 'Nuff said!

Jalapeno Popper Dip -
We love jalapeno poppers in our house, but the're not very easy to take to a party. This would be a perfect solution!

Simple Guacamole -
So easy to make and delicious, too!

Turkey Egg Rolls -
These are on my menu for this year.

Something Sweet:
If you're in charge of bringing something sweet or a dessert, these might work for you...

Cake Mix Snickerdoodles -
Cookies are always a good idea. You can snack on them throughout the night.

Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries -
These are really easy, but look pretty fancy and are sure to WOW everyone!

Funfetti Cake Batter Dip -
This is really good and you can change it up with different flavors of cake mix.

Lemon Cream Cupcakes -
These are absolutely delicious! And they're so pretty!! Perfect for NYE!

Nutella Brownies -
Who doesn't like brownies?

Pretzel Hugs -
These are so addicting, so make sure you have lots of people to share them with!

Toffee Apple Dip -
The dip may not be the healthiest, but at least the apples are!

Mini "Cupcakes"
You can make a mini version of any of the savory "cupcakes" that I've posted by using a mini muffin pan and wonton wrappers instead of the egg roll wrappers.

Taco Cupcakes -

So there you have it. The only problem now, is trying to narrow it down! Good luck with that! I hope you all have a great New Year's Eve and wish you all the very best for 2015.

So long for today...

Weekly Food Plan & Fitness Recap {12/28}

Hey everyone! Did you survive Christmas? We are smack-dab in the middle of the Christmas/ New Years holiday. Hope you didn't overdo it too much with the Christmas goodies and saved some room for the New Year's treats. I hope you're all having a joyful holiday season. We had a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and of course, have been busy, but we have had some downtime here and there. My eating has been all over the place just like my exercise, but I'm hoping to keep things in check for the most part from here on out. We are celebrating with TC's family later today and I'm bringing some fruit to share. Tomorrow, we are getting together at my sister's house to watch the Clemson bowl game and I am planning to take a veggie platter. I know there will be tons of food at both places, so I'm trying to balance it all with some healthier items.

Here's what I have planned for this coming week:

Food:
Sunday - Christmas celebration with TC's family (bringing fruit)
Monday - Clemson game party (bringing a veggie platter)
Tuesday - Slow Cooker Red Beans and Rice
Wednesday - New Year's Eve celebration
Thursday - Pork and Sauerkraut
Friday - Chicken Cordon Blue
Saturday - Baked Ham

Fitness:
The beginning of the week was pretty lazy for me.  Actually didn't get any exercise in until Friday afternoon. I got a 3 mile run in and also a 3.21 mile run in on Sunday. It was the first time that I had run in a few months and I was pretty sore yesterday, but I made myself go for another run and I was even more sore after that! Ha! I'm still sore today, but I'm thinking about sneaking in naive other run before we head to my inlaws' house. We will have to see. I am trying to figure out what my new route will be at the new house. There is a beautiful loop just down the road, but I have to go out onto the main road to get to it, so we will see. Here are some pics I took in my run today.
I made some new friends along the way too!
So pretty!

I hope you all have a great week.  I have a few days of work ahead of me, but then I get a long weekend.

So long for today...

Lately {12/22}

Hey there everyone! How did your week start off? I have one more day of work this week, then I get to have 5 days off to celebrate Christmas with my family. I'm so excited!! I thought maybe I would share a post to update you on what we've had going on lately.

1. I'm done with all of my Christmas shopping! Yay!! Plus, I have all of the presents wrapped (except for Santa's stocking stuffers) and under the tree. I had to pick up one more present yesterday for Addison and that was it for me!

2. I'm also very close to being done making my holiday goodies. I've made so many treats already this year, but I still want to make some English Toffee Bites. I even Amazon Primed a silicone brownie bite pan last week thinking I was going to make them over the weekend, but it just didn't happen. Maybe soon though?

3. Cheers for fancy nails!! I very rarely paint my nails, but I have been seeing so many people posting pictures of their pretty nails, I thought I would join in. A couple of weeks ago, I was going to order some Jamberry wraps, but I never got around to it. So, I decided to do my own festive manicure! I think it turned out pretty nice!

4. I am 4 boxes away from having all of the boxes unpacked at the new house. Granted, there are still a ton of boxes in the attic at the old house that still need to be moved, but I'm just pretending that they don't exist. Play along, ok?

5. We went to see Santa on Friday and I'm calling it a success! Sure, Camden wasn't looking at the camera and his pants were hiked up almost to his knees, but at least he wasn't crying like a certain 5 year old little girl did 4 years ago...

I think I'll stop there. Time to get the little ones up and start the day. I hope you all have a great day and a Merry, Merry Christmas!

Weekly Menu Plan & Fitness Recap {12/21}

Happy Sunday everyone!! Can you believe that we are only 4 days away from Christmas?!

The excitement at our house is at an all-time high. We let the kids each open a gift yesterday, so of course Addison wanted to open some more, but we told her no. Grinches! Camden did great opening his gift, so Christmas morning should be a pretty big blur of paper and ribbons flying everywhere. I can't wait!!

We ended up going to church this morning, so this is a bit later since I didn't have it written out ahead of time. The last part if the week is going to be up in the air, so no definite plans yet. But here is what I'm planning prior to Christmas:

Food:
Sunday - Crockpot Roast
Monday - Grilles Turkey Patties
Tuesday - Crockpot Chicken Parmesan
Wednesday - Sweet & Sour Meatballs
Thursday - Christmas Ham
Friday - TBD
Saturday - TBD

Fitness:
This was a pretty good week of workouts. It feels really good to be working my muscles and burning some calories, too!
Sunday - Ripped in 30 - Level 1
Monday - Yoga Meltdown - Level 1
Tuesday - Rest
Wednesday - Ripped in 30 - Level 2
Thursday - Rest
Friday - Rest
Saturday - Ripped in 30 - Level 1

I hope you all have a great weekend. I hope to get another post in before Christmas, but if I don't, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!!

Weekly Meal Plan & Fitness {12/14}

Well, hey there! This is the third time that I've tried to write this post. I've been writing my posts on my phone lately, and today I kept getting interrupted for one reason or another and of course, I didn't save my post before leaving blogger and it didn't save. So I'm hoping that the third time is the charm...

We had a low key Friday decorating gingerbread houses and making white chocolate dipped Bugles.
Saturday was busy between birthday parties, shopping and lots of visitors. I didn't get much done around the house yesterday, but we made some pretty good progress today. We have the formal living room done and even have most of our pictures and other art hanging where they belong. Hopefully we will have the rest of the house in order by Christmas.

So did you notice that I included fitness in this weeks post? I only worked out two days, but you have to start somewhere, right?

Here is how this week is looking:

Sunday - Leftovers
Monday - Honey Garlic Drumsticks
Tuesday - Grilled Hamburgers
Wednesday - Grilled Pork Chops
Thursday - Crockpot Meatloaf
Friday - Tacos
Saturday - Contingency Day

For last week's workouts, I did Jillian's Fast Fix Kickboxing on Tuesday and t25 Thursday. I was hoping to get a workout in Friday or yesterday, but it just didn't happen.

I hope you all have a great week!

Christmas Tree Ornament Friday Five

Haaaaapy Friday everyone!! We made it to another weekend!! We only have one planned hing over the weekend so far. Addison was invited to a friend's birthday party at Chuck E Cheese Saturday morning. (Ugh!) TC is taking one for the team and taking Addison down since the friend is a daughter of a guy TC works with. In my defense, the party falls during Camden's nap time. So all that excitement + lack of nap = no fun for anyone. So, Camden and I will stay at home and see if we can unpack a couple of boxes. We are also thinking about going out to dinner to finally celebrate TC's birthday, but no definite plans.

For this Friday Five, I thought I would show you my favorite 5 ornaments on our Christmas tree. I've wanted to do a recap of our tree for you, but I haven't gotten around to it, so I thought this might be fun.

1.
Our First Christmas Together ornament. We actually got this the year after our first Christmas together. It was from the year before though so it worked out :-)

2.
Of course I love the ornaments I had made for the kids for their first Christmases. I think they're so sweet and love to hang them up every year.

3.
My Aunt died the first December after Addison was born. She was a pretty special woman to everyone in our family and we all miss her so much. My mom (her sister) bought us all memorial angel ornaments for Christmas that year. My Aunt loved the holiday season! To help her share it with us, I always put her ornament towards the top of our tree so she has a good view of everything.

4. The same year Addison was born, my aunt and uncle started giving her White House ornaments. My uncle still continues to give them to both kids to this day. The ornaments are so beautiful and the kids love hanging them on the tree every year.

5. While we were at Disney World this past Summer, I thought it would be nice to get the kids each an ornament. Addison chose Ariel and since Camden was so young, I let her choose his ornament as well. She chose Lightning McQueen for him. It was so fun to pull the ornaments out to put on the Christmas tree this year.

We have a lot more ornaments, but I think those are my favorites, at leader this year! We also put red and silver bulbs on the tree, but I think they will go away in the future as we keep adding more meaningful ornaments each year.

So what does your tree look like? Do you have any sentimental ornaments on it?

I hope you all have a great weekend!

So long for today...

Thinking Out Loud {12/11}

Happy Thursday everyone! I have been trying to find some new blogs to follow lately and I have come across a link-up called Thinking Out Loud. I guess it's similar to the Friday Five, but I thought I would join in this week for the link-up. I find myself with random thoughts that I would love to share but not necessarily devote an entire post to the one thought, so I think this is the perfect way to do it.

1. I am still so into Christmas. I started wrapping presents last Friday and I just wrapped a bunch more last night. My children are extremely spoiled...but I wouldn't have it anyway. I went way overboard on presents this year. The good news is that I already have Addison's Easter basket done and one or two birthday gifts, too!

2. I got my haircut last week and I love it! I'm still trying to get my hair back to its natural color, so she put some lowlights back into it and she gave me a really cute cut, too. I thought about posting a picture, but I'm not a huge fan of posting selfies on myself unless one of my kids or other family members is in the picture with me. I diddn't go too short since I am in a wedding in May and I want to be able to pull it back. Who knows what will happen after the wedding though.

3. Does it seem like bloggers are having a ton of sponsored posts these days? I'm all for having the occasional one, but it seems like they're doing it all the time now. There is one blogger in a particular that I follow and really like, but she has been having 2 or 3 sponsored posts a week. Is it just me?

4. I've decided not to send Christmas cards this year. I really enjoy sending them, but I'm blaming this all on here new house. Not only are we still paying the mortgage on there other house, we are just plain busy trying to unpack and organize the new house. I just don't want to spend the extra time or money on Christmas cards and postage this year. I am planning to take some cute pictures and make man electronic card to post on FB and send via email, so hopefully that will do for this year.

5. We had our Christmas party at work this week and I'm pretty proud of myself for the self control that I had. For an event like that, intend to completely overindulge, but I did pretty well. I still enjoyed myself, but not to I much. Moderation, right?

6. I'm pretty excited that I got a workout in the he other night. Until after the first of the year, my goal is to get 3-4 workouts In each week. I'm not going to have a lot of intensity in my workouts, but enough to work the muscles, break a sweat and burn so me calories.

Thank you so much to Running With Spoons for hosting this link-up.

I hope you all have a great day!

So long for today...
