New Look, New Feature

I am so excited to tell you about one of my favorite bloggers and a new feature that she and I are teaming up for that will be starting on the blog soon.

But before I get to that, how about the new look? I was thinking about actually paying someone to do a redesign for me, but I really hated to part with that money. After talking to some blogger friends of mine, exploring Blogger a little bit more and becoming reacquainted with PicMonkey, I decided that I was going to try to do it on my own. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I might still make a few tweaks here and there, but there shouldn't be anymore major changes to the blog. Of course, I am always open to suggestions and new ideas. Feel free to speak up!

Ok, now on to the new feature. I am teaming up with Racheal of Running with Racheal to do a weekly meal/workout plan. Since I started back to work last week, it's become even more important to have a plan in place for the week.  I used to just pre-plan our meals for the week, but now it looks like I need to pre-plan my workouts, too. I haven't been working out as much as I would like to the last few days. I know I got thrown off with the mastitis and we have had a couple of busy evenings, but I need to get back go it. I'm hoping this new plan will help.

Southern Living Yankee

This is meant for anyone and everyone that wants to join. It's a great way to put your goals out there and be accountable to someone else. That's what we're here for. This is that extra push that you need to set and meet your weekly goals.

I really want to reach my weight and fitness goals sooner rather than later. I'm hoping that this new feature will help to motivate me to do that. I know it might take me a couple of weeks to get into the swing of things, but eventually, I really want to find my routine and stick to it. I'm such a structured person about things. I think that is one of the reasons that WeightWatchers works so well for me. So what's a little more structure?

I'm so excited to interact with you all, meet some new people and maybe find some new recipe ideas! So don't forget to check back here Sunday for the First edition of My Weekly Food & Fitness Plan.

So long for today...

I hope you will all bear with me for a little while while I work on a couple of changes to the blog. It will be better than ever when I am done. Stay tuned...

Fitness Friday...or Monday!

Sorry this is a little late. I wrote it up and was going to post it, but then I ended up under the weather Friday afternoon. But it's better late than never, right?

Once again, another week has gone by without another post. Seriously, I will get better about this. I started back to work this week, so I think I deserve a little bit of leeway here.

So like I said, it was back to work for me this week. I'm not going to lie. The first day was absolutely horrible. I have no idea how many tears I shed. It's so hard for a new mama to head back to work. Of course, the fact that I didn't sleep well the night before might have had something to do with it, too! The second day was much better. The third day, eh...you know.

Luckily for my exercise, my first couple of days were half days, so I had a little bit of extra time to play with and get in some activity. Wednesday is normally a run day for me, but since it has been sweltering hot in the afternoons here, there was no way I was going to run! So instead, we went for a 3 mile walk as a family. I only burned half as many calories as a run would have, but I still got my 10,000+ steps in for the day. I'm hoping that I will find some time to squeeze in some exercise on most days after I start back to my full time schedule next week, but I'm thinking it's going to take some definite tweaking. Tune in next week to see how I do.

So here is what I did for exercise this week:

Saturday: 3 mile run - best time since I got pregnant!!

Sunday: Yoga Meltdown - Level 1 + 2 mile walk

Monday: 3 mile walk - even beat Saturday's time!

Tuesday: Ripped in 30 - Level 1

Wednesday: 3 mile family walk

Thursday: Ripped in 30 - Level 2

Friday: Rest!

I was having flu-like symptoms Friday afternoon so I didn't even get in a 3 mile walk like I had wanted to. But the rest was what I needed. I ended up having mastitis, not the flu. Which, as horrible as mastitis is, I'm so glad it wasn't the flu!!

Also, please notice that I bumped up to Level 2 of Ripped in 30. My sore muscles have been reminding me of that all day, too! But I love to feel a workout the next day!

I hope you all had a great weekend and have a great week, too. I will try to do another post before next Friday, but please don't be mad if it accidently doesn't make it up :-P

So long for today...

Fitness Friday!

So it looks like the only posts that I can do these days are about my workouts. I promise that I will post more recipes. Just give me time,

I can't believe my last full week of maternity leave is just about over. These last 12 weeks have gone by entirely too fast! Camden has grown into such a happy and healthy little guy. He even rolled over for the first time last Sunday...not just once, but 5 times! I guess he just wanted to make sure we got some good pictures and video of it, which we did. And of course, he hasn't done it again since. He's holding out on us! Ha!

This was a pretty good week for my workouts again. It cooled off the end of the week and my runs were much more pleasant. Too bad this weather isn't sticking around longer.

So here is how my workouts looked this week:

Saturday: JM Yoga Meltdown + 2 mile run

Sunday: Ripped in 30 - Level 1

Monday: 3 mile run

Tuesday: Ripped in 30 - Level 1

Wednesday: 3 mile run

Thursday: Ripped in 30 - Level 1

Friday: TBD

I am hoping to get a run in later today after my hair appt and running some errands, but we will have to see if that works out with time and weather. It may turn into a rest day.

I have been noticing that I have been getting more toned, which I am ecstatic about. I attribute my extra strength workouts to that. I'm thinking about bumping up to level 2 of Ripped in 30, but we will have to see about that.

I hope you all have a great week. I return to work on Wednesday. :-( while I am thankful to have a good job, it would be so nice to win the lottery. Of course, you have to play to win!

So long for today...

Fitness Fra-turday

Now that I am getting a pretty good fitness routine again, I thought I would try to recap my weekly workouts for you all. I will try to do this on Fridays, but since I missed yesterday, I thought today would be ok.

I love being on maternity leave because it gives me a chance to get a workout in on most days. The hardest thing right now is trying to beat the heat! Summer in South Carolina is noting but heat and humidity, and rain this summer. Since Camden has been sleeping longer at night, he tends to sleep in. By the time he wakes up, it is sometimes pretty hot already. On those days, I just try to make sure I am hydrated before I head out and take it easy.

Here are this week's workouts:

Sunday: Jillian Michaels Killer Buns & Thighs - Level 1

Monday: 3 mile run

Tuesday: Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 - Level 1

Wednesday: 3 mile run

Thursday: REST

Friday: 3 mile run

Saturday: Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown - Level 1

We have also been doing some family walks in the evenings once it cools down a little bit. Usually, they are 3 miles, so I am getting some pretty good mileage on a lot of days!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

So long for today...

Apple Banana Oatmeal Muffins

I can give you so many excuses for why I haven't posted in so long.  But there is only one reason.  He now weighs about 13 pounds and has the cutest smiles.  I only have a couple of weeks left of maternity leave and I am savoring every moment.  If there was a way that I didn't have to go back to work, I'd do it in a second.  I know that he will be ok at daycare and I will be ok going back to work (eventually) but it's just so hard to leave him.  I know that it's time to find our new normal as a family of four, but I've really enjoyed these last weeks living in our little bubble.  I hope you will bear with me during these next few weeks as I transition into that new normal.

I had some bananas that were getting pretty brown and needed to be used.  I also have been trying to incorporate more oatmeal into my daily diet.  The oatmeal is one thing that is supposed to help to increase milk production in nursing mothers.  As one of those nursing mothers, I will definitely eat more oatmeal to be able to feed my baby!  So I searched Pinterest and found these muffins.  I wasn't sure how they would turn out with all of the different textures, but they are delicious!  TC likes them, too!  They have a ton of nutrients in them from all of the fruit and the oatmeal.  If you wanted to, you could also add some PB2 or use whole wheat flour if you wanted to.  Here's the recipe:

APPLE BANANA OATMEAL MUFFINS
adapted from Rock Recipes
Servings: 15
Points+: 3

Mix together and set aside:
1 1/2 cups oatmeal
1 cup flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Beat together until fluffy:
2 eggs
4 tbsp vegetable oil
6 tbsp sugar

Blend in:
2/3 cup milk

Fold in the dry ingredients and when the flour is almost incorporated fold in:
1 cup mashed ripe banana
1 cup grated apple (approximately one large apple)
Do not over mix. Fold in only until the fruit is mixed through the batter.
Spoon into greased or paper lined muffin tins and bake at 350 degrees F for 20 -25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve warm.
EXERCISE:
I'm happy to report that I am have gotten back into a regular exercise routine.  I've been running a few days a week and I've been working in either a yoga video or a strength training video throughout the week as well.  It feels great to be getting back in shape.  Of course, I'm pretty out of shape right now, so it's going to take a while to get back to where I was, but I will get back to it again.  I know it will take a while to get there, but I've accepted that.

I hope you all are doing well!  I will try to keep in touch a little better.

So long for today...
